Where were the angry people when......?
Birthers, Deathers, TEA BAGGERS, and Angry People.... You didn't get mad when the Supreme Court stopped a legal recount and appointed a President. You didn't get mad when Cheney allowed Energy company officials to dictate energy policy. You didn't get mad when a covert CIA operative got outed. You didn't get mad when the Patriot Act got passed. You didn't get mad when we illegally invaded a country that posed no threat to us. You didn't get mad when we spent over 600 billion(and counting) on said illegal war. You didn't get mad when over 10 billion dollars just disappeared in Iraq . You didn't get mad when you saw the Abu Grahib photos. You didn't get mad when you found out we were torturing people. You didn't get mad when the national debt doubled under the previous President from $5.674 trillion to $10.024 trillion. You didn't get mad when the government was illegally wiretapping Americans and the President lied about it. You didn't get mad when we didn't catch Bin Laden in Tora Bora. You didn't get mad when you saw the horrible conditions at Walter Reed. You didn't get mad when we let a major US city drown! You didn't get mad when the deficit hit the trillion dollar mark. You finally got mad when.. when... wait for it............... When the government decided that people in America deserved the right to see a doctor if they are sick. Yes! Illegal wars, lies, corruption, torture, stealing your tax dollars to make the rich richer, are all ok with you, but helping other Americans... well that makes me mad! PLEASE COPY AND PASTE THEN SEND THIS TO EVERYONE ON YOUR E-MAIL LIST TO KEEP IT GOING. THE NEWSPAPERS NEED TO GET THIS MESSAGE TOO." |

Thousands Converge on Koch Brothers Billionaire’s Caucus; 25 Arrested
Thousands Converge on Koch Brothers Billionaire’s Caucus; 25 Arrested | |
| By: David Dayen Sunday January 30, 2011 4:34 pmTwenty-five protesters were arrested in Rancho Mirage, California today, at a protest in front of the Rancho Las Palmas resort, site of the “Billionaire’s Caucus,” an annual meeting put on by the Koch Brothers and other corporate entities and conservative movement operators. Riverside Sheriff’s deputy Melissa Nieburger said that the sheriff’s department did have contacts with protest organizers, which included the California Courage Campaign, CREDO, MoveOn.org, 350.org, the California Nurses Association, United Domestic Workers of America and the main sponsor, the good-government group Common Cause, prior to the event, and that they were aware that some protesters would seek to be arrested for trespassing. She would not guarantee that all 25 who were arrested were part of that coordinated operation. The police, who wore riot gear, batons and helmets, did put the arrested into plastic handcuffs. Nieburger described them as “passive restraints.” They were being processed at press time, and Nieburger would not say whether they would be released or would spend the night at the jail in Indio. | |

The job I really want...
Orphaned orangutans saved from extinction in Borneo jungle
At the Nyaru Menteng centre 47 “babysitters” – women recruited from nearby villages in central Borneo - help care for 650 apes as they move through nursery, Forest School One and Forest School Two before hopefully heading out for a new life in the jungle.
The centre was set up 12 years ago by Danish conservationist Lone Dröscher-Nielsen who devised the baby-sitter system of giving the traumatised young orphans the unconditional love they need to survive.

It's time to drop Fox.
It's time to drop Fox.
UPDATE: Glenn Beck's latest conspiracy theory target is a 78-year-old academic who, 45 years ago, published an article with her husband which posited that people overwhelming the welfare rolls could put enough stress on the system that it would force the need for certain reforms to help the poor.
The result? City University of New York professor and longtime advocate for the poor and working class, Frances Fox Piven has been receiving repeated death threats on online message boards and has personally received angry and violent emails.
Beck's characterization of Piven as an "enemy" who wants to "intentionally collapse our economic system" has consequences. In light of Beck's attacks and their consequences, and Fox News' refusal to rein Beck in, it is irresponsible for companies to supportany programming on Fox News with their advertising dollars.

Mad Kane's SOTU Rebuttal review
I hope that few voters are buyin’
The proposals from Congressman Ryan.
They’re extreme to their core:
Screw the middle class, poor,
And the sick and would cause lots of dyin’.

Front
Lotus fore… (by George Eastman House)
This is Lotus, only circus-trained hippo in the U.S., who waddles around the ring towing a pony cart. For all her grim expression, she is a likable beast, kind and tractable.
She is 25 years old, weighs 4,800 lb. and posed willingly for Photographer Bob Wallace at the winter quarters of the Al G. Barnes Circus in California.
